The sanctuary of Olympia, which hosted the ancient Olympic Games, was a place where the Gaia, the Earth Mother, was worshipped from prehistoric times. The cult of goddesses survived through the centuries, honoring Demeter, Rhea, and Hera. As Pausanias, a well known ancient Greek writer, attests, women’s races were held in Hera's honor. These female Olympics were called Heraea and were organized by priestesses who once served as peacemakers as well. There is evidence that the female games predated the male ones, originating from Minoan Crete. Moreover, there are several connections between women athletes and the legendary Amazons. Harita Meenee, researcher and author of The Women’s Olympics and the Great Goddess, sheds light on these fascinating traditions.

Aphrodite is an ever-present, multi-faceted goddess. In antiquity she was honored as an embodiment of sacred sexuality, represented by hetairai (courtesans) and sacred prostitutes. Yet she was also a great goddess of nature, ruling over humans, deities and beasts alike, symbolizing the forces of love and life. Her power extended to the social realm, as she protected democracy and peace. Harita Meenee, author of the book On the Path of Aphrodite, examines the hidden aspects of this fascinating figure, who has inspired artists, poets and philosophers through the centuries.

The roots of Christmas are deeply buried in ancient traditions rich in archetypal content. The Christian holiday succeeded the celebrations of the Winter Solstice, which honored the rebirth of the Sun God, an older Savior. The Roman Saturnalia and Bacchanalia, as well as the Greek fertility festivals in honor of Demeter and Dionysus, occurring during the same season, have added their own symbolic significance. Exploring the figures of the Mother of God and her Son, which lie at the core of Christmas, we also discover the primordial image of a goddess, who was at once Virgin and Mother, giving birth to all life.

Beltane was the traditional Celtic celebration which marked the passage from spring to summer, the most erotic seasons of the year. Thus, it is appropriate to honor Aphrodite, the Hellenic goddess of beauty and love, of springtime and flowers.
Harita Meenee, Greek author and scholar of the Sacred Feminine, will talk about Aphrodite’s connections with Nature, sensuality and desire. She will also recite poems created by ancient Greek women, like Sappho, Anyte and Nossis, who saw the goddess as a powerful force in their lives.
The talk will be accompanied by a slide show, revealing the stunning influence of Aphrodite, who has been a rich source of inspiration for artists through the centuries.
